AROUND THE WORLD
DEBATE: “How Publishers combat climate change” took place in the Frankfurt Book Fair on 22 October 2022. Speakers discussed what can publishers do (and are already doing) to find more environmentally friendly alternatives to print books and sell them.
PROJECT: Sometimes young elephants lose their parents or are abandoned by their families for some reason. If they are not cared for they die. Hence, “Reteti Elephant Sanctuary” was born. The aim is to rescue, take care, and then release back again into the wild those young elephants. If you go to Kenya, you can pay them a visit.
HIGHLIGHT: In April 2019 the United Nations, together with partners from the publishing business, launched the SDG Book Club , with the aim to list recommended books to children aged 6-12 better understand each one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
AT TRANSLATION & TRAVELLING PROJECTS
Translation and travelling are intertwined. The first translators were travellers that had to learn the language of the people from other lands to communicate with them. Then, they would bring new knowledge to their homelands. When that knowledge was written, they would translate it. However, to know the equivalent words, these translators-travellers would have to know both cultures. This is very true even today for all translators, travellers or not.
